HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the School Sisters
4of Notre Dame on 150 years of service and ministry to
5Teutopolis and the surrounding area; and
 
6    WHEREAS, On December 7th 1861, 3 School Sisters of Notre
7Dame arrived in the village of Teutopolis from their
8motherhouse in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to start teaching the
9children of the newly established village; they were part of
10the early pioneers of Illinois education; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The School Sisters of Notre Dame established
12themselves in Teutopolis and continued to migrate to other
13communities throughout the area; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Because of the School Sisters of Notre Dame and
15their dedication to the teaching profession and the demand for
16discipline, respect, and loyalty, they were an impressive
17influence upon the students that they taught; with the welfare
18of the student in mind, they were available to aid students
19whenever there was a need; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The School Sisters of Notre Dame taught first
21grade through the eighth grade; through their high school

1courses, the School Sisters of Notre Dame established their
2high expectations for the students; and
 
3    WHEREAS, The people of Teutopolis, the surrounding area,
4and scattered locations throughout Illinois, have come to value
5the results of a good education and recognize the impact that
6the School Sisters of Notre Dame had upon the early educational
7needs of Teutopolis; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we congratulate the School Sisters of Notre Dame on their
11celebration, October 9 2011; we thank the School Sisters of
12Notre Dame for their service in the early educational needs of
13the community and their continued presence in the community
14today; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the School Sisters of Notre Dame as a symbol of
17our respect and esteem.
