HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lillie Mae Sutherland of Chicago, who passed away on September 2, 2011; and

WHEREAS, She was born on April 16, 1922 in Sunflower County, Mississippi to the late Marion Brown and Ionia (Morris) Brown Dotson; she moved to Chicago after attending high school for 3 years; and

WHEREAS, In Chicago, she reconnected with Edmund Sutherland, who she had met years earlier and they were married on June 29, 1942; she joined with Bethel A.M.E. Church and became President of the Third Board of Stewardess; she worked as a maid on the Northside of Chicago and later with the Chicago Dynamic Coin Company; she retired from Stern Electronics later in life; and

WHEREAS, She liked to work on quilts, puzzle books, watch her favorite Chicago sports team, or watch soap operas; and

WHEREAS, Lillie Mae Sutherland is survived by her grandchildren, Scott (Prinscilla) Alexander, Kim Sutherland, Dorita (Aaron) Carson, and Jerry (Lea) Roberts; her great-grandchildren, Quenton Davis, Akiya and Stephyn Alexander, Janelle, Candace, Cinque, and Czar Carson, and Jessica and Victor Roberts; her great-great-grandchildren; her special niece, Ruth Boyd; her sister/cousins, Lucy Richardson and Semarian Robinson; her Lake Vista Bible study group; her Bethel Church family; and a host of relatives and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Lillie Mae Sutherland; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Lillie Mae Sutherland as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
