HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lillie
4Mae Sutherland of Chicago, who passed away on September 2,
52011; and
 
6    WHEREAS, She was born on April 16, 1922 in Sunflower
7County, Mississippi to the late Marion Brown and Ionia (Morris)
8Brown Dotson; she moved to Chicago after attending high school
9for 3 years; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In Chicago, she reconnected with Edmund
11Sutherland, who she had met years earlier and they were married
12on June 29, 1942; she joined with Bethel A.M.E. Church and
13became President of the Third Board of Stewardess; she worked
14as a maid on the Northside of Chicago and later with the
15Chicago Dynamic Coin Company; she retired from Stern
16Electronics later in life; and
 
17    WHEREAS, She liked to work on quilts, puzzle books, watch
18her favorite Chicago sports team, or watch soap operas; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lillie Mae Sutherland is survived by her
20grandchildren, Scott (Prinscilla) Alexander, Kim Sutherland,
21Dorita (Aaron) Carson, and Jerry (Lea) Roberts; her

1great-grandchildren, Quenton Davis, Akiya and Stephyn
2Alexander, Janelle, Candace, Cinque, and Czar Carson, and
3Jessica and Victor Roberts; her great-great-grandchildren; her
4special niece, Ruth Boyd; her sister/cousins, Lucy Richardson
5and Semarian Robinson; her Lake Vista Bible study group; her
6Bethel Church family; and a host of relatives and friends;
7therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of
11Lillie Mae Sutherland; and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Lillie Mae Sutherland as a symbol of
14our sincere sympathy.
