HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Evelyn Young, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal, on her new job as the executive director of the Downtown Porter Branch at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Memphis, Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, She opened the Boys & Girls Club of Bloomington-Normal in 1992 and has served as the executive director since its inception; and

WHEREAS, The community is losing a valued asset in Evelyn Young, who has worked for 34 years with the Boys & Girls Clubs in various locales, including Danville and Omaha, Nebraska; and

WHEREAS, The Memphis Boys & Girls Clubs have 6 facilities, serve over 7,000 children and teens, and have a large operating budget; and

WHEREAS, Boys & Girls Clubs provide after-school and summer programs for youth, including homework assistance, music, sports, and recreation programs; and

WHEREAS, In addition to her duties at the Boys & Girls Club, she has also been a foster parent through the Department of Children and Family Services of Bloomington-Normal; worked as a permanent volunteer at the Illinois Department of Corrections, in Lincoln; worked with the McLean County Child Protection Network Court as an Appointed Special Advocate (CASA); and has served on the Normal Human Relations Commission for 14 years, and currently serves as Chairperson; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Evelyn Young on her new position and thank her for her years of service to the young people of Bloomington-Normal; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Evelyn Young as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
