HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the
4Champaign County Committee on Aging on the occasion of the
5organization's 50th anniversary; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The Champaign County Committee on Aging was formed
7in 1961 as a subcommittee of the Welfare Committee of the
8United Community Council; the Committee was created as the
9planning and coordinating body for social welfare services for
10Champaign County; the Committee also served in an advisory
11capacity to the Champaign County United Fund (now the United
12Way) and was funded by that agency; and
 
13    WHEREAS, The Champaign County Committee on Aging was
14created mainly through the efforts of Mrs. Helen Harland, who
15at that time was the Executive Director of Family Service of
16Champaign County, working cooperatively with Mr. Jack Coyle,
17who was the Executive Director of the United Fund and United
18Community Council; Mrs. Harland felt that the aged were being
19overlooked, under-served, and under-represented by the various
20service agencies and institutions; and
 
21    WHEREAS, The Champaign County Committee on Aging seeks to
22promote cooperation and communication among all services and

1organizations interested in the problems and concerns of aging,
2work toward the development of useful and meaningful needed
3services for the elderly in Champaign County, and provide
4public education on the needs of and the services provided for
5the elderly; and
 
6    WHEREAS, From the beginning, the Champaign County
7Committee on Aging's membership has consisted of
8representatives from numerous social welfare and health
9agencies, such as Family Service of Champaign County, the
10Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the
11Champaign-Urbana Public Health District, the Public Housing
12Authority, and the Social Security Administration, among
13others; other organizations, such as the Retired Teachers
14Association, service clubs, certain interested community
15leaders, consumers of services, and minority groups have also
16joined the Committee to help those in need; and
 
17    WHEREAS, The Champaign County Committee on Aging sponsors
18numerous programs to benefit the elderly of Champaign County,
19including the Christmas Parties, the Meals on Wheels program,
20the Action on Aging research, action, and demonstration
21project, grocery delivery services, the Senior Talent
22Employment Pool, and TeleCare; the Committee also sponsors
23numerous workshops and forums to educate people about issues
24affecting the elderly in Champaign County; and

1    WHEREAS, The Champaign County Committee on Aging will
2celebrate its 50th anniversary with a celebration on June 14,
32011 at Provena Home Care in Champaign; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
6we congratulate the members of the Champaign County Committee
7on Aging on the occasion of the organization's 50th anniversary
8and wish them continued success in the future; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the Champaign County Committee on Aging as a
12symbol of our esteem and respect.
