HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Isabel Tellez, Principal at Kelvyn Park High School in Chicago, on her many years of hard work and dedication to the education of young people; and

WHEREAS, She received her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Northeastern Illinois University in 1987; she received her Master of Science in Education from the National College of Education in 1989; she received her second Master of Science in Education from Chicago State University in 1991; and she received a Certificate of Advanced Study in School Administration from National Louis University in 1998; and

WHEREAS, She began her teaching career at Alcott Elementary School in 1987; she moved to the Department of Truancy Prevention with the Chicago Public Schools in 1992; she later moved to the Department of Funded Programs in 2000; she served as Management Support Director for Cluster Two in the Chicago Public Schools from 2004 to 2005; in 2005, she accepted the position of Assistant Principal at F.W. Reilly Elementary School; and in 2009, she was appointed the Principal at Kelvyn Park High School; and

WHEREAS, Under Isabel Tellez's leadership, academic achievement and Freshman on Track increased, standardized test scores increased, attendance rate increased, and acts of misconduct decreased during her first year as principal at Kelvyn Park High School; and

WHEREAS, She is a hard worker, dedicated to making school a positive environment for her students, and is loved by her community; during her time as Principal she has initiated a "Safe Passage" area around the school, personally keeping gangs and gang intimidation away from her students; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Isabel Tellez for her years of dedicated service in the education field and for her dedication and commitment to the Kelvyn Park High School community and wish her the best in all her future endeavors and a prompt recovery; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Isabel Tellez as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
