HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, A Freedom of Information request to obtain information about millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded workers compensation settlements paid to prison guards at Menard Prison was submitted to the Department of Central Management Services (CMS) in February, and that information has yet to be obtained; and

WHEREAS, The Attorney General's Public Access Counselor's Office issued a binding opinion, calling for the release of the medical tests held by CMS, the State agency that manages the State employees' workers' compensation program; and

WHEREAS, Under Illinois law, CMS has 35 days to release the documents or appeal the opinion to circuit court, either in Sangamon or Cook County; and

WHEREAS, Today, May 23, 2011 is the 35th day since the Attorney General's Office issued its opinion; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Department of Central Management Services to release the information requested in the Freedom of Information Act request; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be presented to the Director of Central Management Services, the Attorney General, and the Governor.
