HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The International Herb Association has declared the horseradish "2011 Herb of the Year"; and

WHEREAS, Collinsville produces approximately 60% of the world's horseradish each year; Southern Illinois grows 80%-85% of the world's horseradish each year; and

WHEREAS, Since 1988, the International Horseradish Festival has attracted visitors from around the world; proceeds from the festival have helped organizations build playgrounds, assist children with disabilities, and purchase sporting equipment; and

WHEREAS, The International Horseradish Festival has received recognition in 2007 as the "Best Fest" by the Riverfront Times and has been featured nationally on the Travel Channel's Taste of America; and

WHEREAS, On June 4-5, 2011 the City of Collinsville will be celebrating the "Year of the Horseradish" at the 23rd annual International Horseradish Festival; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the International Horseradish Festival Committee for their achievements, exemplary work, and continued success in hosting the annual International Horseradish Festival; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the International Horseradish Festival Committee as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
