HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The City of Lanark is located in the Township of
3Rock Creek, in the County of Carroll, of the Northwestern
4region of the State of Illinois, characterized by its
5picturesque architecture and beautiful tree-lined streets; and
 
6    WHEREAS, The year 2011 has been dedicated to celebrating
7the 150th year since the City of Lanark was first settled; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The town's original name was Glasgow, but since
9there was already a town by that name, the name became Lanark;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, The name Lanark was taken from the name of a
12county in Scotland in which a Lanark banker once lived; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Acting on behalf of the Northern Illinois Railroad
14Company, D. W. Dame purchased 80 acres of land and John Nycum
15donated 80 acres more to the railroad for the town site; and
 
16    WHEREAS, The Northern Illinois Railroad Company donated
17generous amounts of this land for the school, city park, and
18churches as the city was laid out by D. W. Dame; and
 
19    WHEREAS, D. W. Dame was the first Mayor; and

1    WHEREAS, The City of Lanark has set aside the dates of June
223 through June 26, 2011, to celebrate this momentous milestone
3during the annual Old Settlers Days celebration; therefore, be
4it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7we congratulate the citizens of Lanark as they celebrate the
8community sesquicentennial; and be it further
 
9    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10presented to Lanark Mayor Ed Stern as a symbol of our respect
11and esteem.
