HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to honor United States Marine Corporal John M. Peck for his service and dedication to his country; and

WHEREAS, He enlisted in the Marines in September of 2005; he received two Purple Hearts for injuries he suffered during his time of service; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Peck served with the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines Weapons Company assigned in Helmund Province, Afghanistan; on May 24, 2010 his company encountered an improvised explosive device and Corporal Peck was seriously wounded; he lost both his legs and arms in the attack; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Peck had previously been wounded in Iraq during his first tour of duty, also as a result of an improvised explosive device; and

WHEREAS, This brave young man continues to fight for his life; he has undergone 27 surgeries and received over 81 transfusions in the last year; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Peck, soon to be Sergeant Peck, is scheduled to be honored at the Antioch VFW on May 9, 2011 during a brief leave from the hospital for a visit home; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Peck had planned to work for the Illinois State Police upon finishing his tour of duty; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor United States Marine Corporal John M. Peck; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to United States Marine Corporal John M. Peck as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
