HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate the members of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on the occasion of the organization's 100th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was founded on January 5, 1911, with its fundamental purpose being achievement; and

WHEREAS, Early in the 20th century, formidable obstacles were erected to prevent and dissuade African-American students from attending college and assimilating into campus life; and

WHEREAS, The 10 young men who founded Kappa Alpha Psi sought a formula that would immediately raise the sights of black collegians and stimulate them to accomplish more than they might have imagined; and

WHEREAS, The Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity maintains active undergraduate and alumni chapters throughout the State of Illinois, the United States, and the world at large; and

WHEREAS, Members of Kappa Alpha Psi are engaged in every field of human endeavor; many members continue to distinguish themselves in service to the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity on the occasion of the organization's centennial year and thank them for 100 years of service in the public interest; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
