HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, This year, 2011, will mark the 70th year since the United States was attacked by Japan, an attack that was quickly followed by declarations of war against our country by Germany and Italy; and

WHEREAS, It is appropriate for Illinois, its political leaders, institutions and local governments to recognize the profound and lasting effect that World War II has had on our society and our State; and

WHEREAS, Those who have actually participated in those events will soon be gone forever; and

WHEREAS, The State's educational, civic, and veterans organizations share a responsibility to assist in preserving our history when the United States was united as never before or since; and

WHEREAS, Those sacrifices and that history should never be neglected or forgotten; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the Constitutional Officers, State Board of Education, Department of Veterans' Affairs, together with civic, educational, and patriotic organizations be urged to implement appropriate ways in which the values and the sacrifices of those who participated in World War II can be remembered, appreciated, and understood; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Constitutional Officers, State Board of Education, and Department of Veterans' Affairs.
