HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate former Illinois State Senator Edward Nedza on his Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.; and

WHEREAS, In 1945 he enlisted at the age of 17 in the United States Navy; he was transferred to the Naval Base in San Diego, California before being sent to the South Pacific; he was a Corpsman and Petty officer 1st Class; he served in the Philippines, Guiuan Eastern Samar, and Okinawa; from 1946 to 1947 he was assigned to the 1st Marine Division in Tientsin (Tianjin), China; in 1948, he was assigned to Naval Special Operations in Germany to retrieve V-2 rocket fuel to be shipped to the United States; and in 1948 he received an Honorable Discharge; and

WHEREAS, He served as an Illinois State Senator in the 19th District from 1979 to 1987; and

WHEREAS, On April 27, 2011, he will be one of 95 World War II veterans that will be escorted to Washington, D.C., as part of Honor Flight Chicago to see the World War II Memorial; and

WHEREAS, The day will conclude back in Chicago with a welcome home celebration; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Edward Nedza as he enjoys the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., and thank him for his service to his country in World War II; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Edward Nedza as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
