HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the passing of Gregory
4A. Adamski of Chicago, who passed away on February 14, 2011;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Greg lived life with passion, for his wife, Karen
7Conti, who he adored, his family, his profession, his clients,
8for people, and for learning; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Greg was born on October 14, 1948 in Chicago's
10Marquette Park; he received a Bachelor's and Master's degree
11from Xavier University and a law degree from Catholic
12University of America Law School in Washington, D.C., where he
13was a law review editor; after serving as a law clerk to U.S.
14District Court Judge Richard B. Austin, he joined the law firm
15of Winston & Strawn, where he became a partner and developed
16the firm's first pro bono program; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Greg and his wife, best friend, and law partner,
18Karen Conti, hosted "Legally Speaking" on Sunday nights on WGN
19AM 720, discussing and debating legal issues in the news and
20fielding listeners' legal questions; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Greg and his wife were founding and managing

1partners in the Chicago law firm of Adamski and Conti LLC and
2taught at the University of Illinois College of Law; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Throughout nearly 40 years as an attorney, Greg
4tried hundreds of cases and argued more than 60 appeals,
5including one in the United States Supreme Court on behalf of
6the Cook County Democratic Party; in the 1990s, Greg and his
7wife, Karen, also represented serial killer John Wayne Gacy in
8the last set of his death row appeals; and
 
9    WHEREAS, In 2001, Greg received the first Elmer Gertz Award
10from the Illinois Bar Association for representing the poor and
11advocating civil rights; he received numerous awards and
12recognitions both as an outstanding attorney and for his radio
13shows on WGN and on other stations; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Gregory Adamski is survived by his wife, Karen
15Conti; his mother, Catherine Bandurski; his siblings, Mary Sue
16Thomas, Richard Adams, and Michael Adamski; and his son, Rik;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
21Gregory A. Adamski; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Gregory A. Adamski as a symbol of
3our sincere sympathy.
