HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate John Schuldt,
4Carpentersville Fire Chief, on being named the 2011 Illinois
5Fire Chief of the Year by the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association;
6and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Illinois Fire Chiefs Association consists of
81,222 fire chiefs and officers from fire departments and fire
9protection districts from across the State; and
 
10    WHEREAS, John Schuldt has served as Fire Chief of
11Carpentersville since 1996, and won the award in the category
12for a full-time paid or combination department that serves a
13population of more than 25,000 people; and
 
14    WHEREAS, The Illinois Fire Chiefs Association recognized
15Chief Schuldt for his local, State, and national contributions
16to the firefighting community; on the local level, he has held
17sessions with teenagers on the dangers of alcohol and drugs,
18designed a fire prevention program for seniors, and helped
19develop the Kane County Investigators Task Force that sends
20certified investigators to fire departments that need them; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Statewise, he was appointed to the Illinois Fire

1Advisory Commission by Governor Pat Quinn in 2010; he also
2served as the Illinois Fire Chiefs Association's president in
32005 and 2006, during which time the group successfully pushed
4the State to require self-extinguishing cigarettes; on the
5national level, Chief Schuldt, as president of the Association,
6sat on the first committee that discussed inter mutual aid with
735 other states; and
 
8    WHEREAS, The Carpenter Park healing field for about 1,900
9missing-in-action Vietnam War veterans was brought to the
10community by Chief Schuldt and was a large factor in the
11Illinois Fire Chiefs Association's decision to award him as
122011 Illinois Fire Chief of the Year; he is a Carpentersville
13native and has 34 years of service in the fire department;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate Chief Schuldt on his award and thank him for
18his years of service to the community; and be it further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to Carpentersville Fire Chief John Schuldt as a
21symbol of our respect and esteem.
