HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Reverend Larry D. Lewis, pastor, and the congregation of Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Champaign, as they host the Illinois North District Conference; and

WHEREAS, The Illinois North District of the African Methodist Episcopal Church consists of 18 churches from Illinois and Iowa, and is under the leadership of The Reverend Tyson J. Parks, Presiding Elder; and

WHEREAS, The Conference will be held from April 13, 2011 to April 16, 2011 at the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church; and

WHEREAS, The Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church was founded in 1863 and is a leading religious institution that provides spiritual, moral, and religious leadership in the community; and

WHEREAS, The Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church performs much important work within the community; it financially supports such projects as Empty Tomb, the Women in Transition Shelter, and the Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund, and sponsors children from the Don Moyer Boys and Girls Club of Greater Champaign; and

WHEREAS, The leaders and congregation of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, through their exemplary faith, hard work, and generosity, contribute greatly to the people of the Champaign and Urbana communities and this State; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate everyone involved in the Illinois North District Conference and wish them success and inspiration; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Reverend Tyson J. Parks and Reverend Larry D. Lewis as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
