HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The Attorney General is responsible for administering the disbursement of monies collected by the Violent Crime Victims Assistance Fund; and

WHEREAS, The purpose of this fund is to aid any public or private nonprofit agency which provides assistance to victims of violent crime and their families, so long as Attorney General deems it worthy; and

WHEREAS, Victims of violent crime are currently unable to apply for funding directly to the Attorney General; and

WHEREAS, This need is particularly strong when there is immediate and direct call for assistance to families for food and shelter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Attorney General to take steps to examine its appropriations of funds and evaluate if a more direct mechanism could be found to aid victims of violent crime and their families; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be delivered to the Attorney General.
