HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate our friend and colleague, Illinois State Representative Susana Mendoza, for being elected to serve as Chicago City Clerk; and

WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza was born in Chicago to Joaquin and Susana Mendoza, who had emigrated from Mexico in the 1960s; her family moved from Chicago to Bolingbrook when she was a child; after graduating from Bolingbrook High School in 1990, where she earned All-State and All-Midwest honors in varsity soccer, she attended Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri on a soccer and academic scholarship, where she earned All-Midwest honors in soccer and earned her bachelor's degree in business administration in 1994; and

WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza was elected to serve in the Illinois House of Representatives in 2000 at the age of 28, making her the youngest member of the 92nd Illinois General Assembly; she was elected to her sixth term as Illinois State Representative in November of 2010, a testament to her great dedication to the citizens of her district; and

WHEREAS, During her tenure with the Illinois House of Representatives, Representative Mendoza has served as Chairman of the International Trade and Commerce Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Bio-Technology Committee, and member of the Labor, Public Utilities, and Railroad Industry Committees; she has also served as Co-Chairwoman of the Conference of Women Legislators and was a co-founder of the first Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus; and

WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza won the election for Chicago City Clerk in the February 22, 2011 election with over 60% of the vote, making her the first woman to be elected to the position; and

WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza will undoubtedly serve the citizens of Chicago with the same dedication and integrity that she has given to the citizens of the 1st House District; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Illinois State Representative Susana Mendoza for her success, thank her for her service to the people of the State of Illinois, and wish her success and happiness in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Susana Mendoza as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
