HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate our friend and
4colleague, Illinois State Representative Susana Mendoza, for
5being elected to serve as Chicago City Clerk; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza was born in Chicago to
7Joaquin and Susana Mendoza, who had emigrated from Mexico in
8the 1960s; her family moved from Chicago to Bolingbrook when
9she was a child; after graduating from Bolingbrook High School
10in 1990, where she earned All-State and All-Midwest honors in
11varsity soccer, she attended Truman State University in
12Kirksville, Missouri on a soccer and academic scholarship,
13where she earned All-Midwest honors in soccer and earned her
14bachelor's degree in business administration in 1994; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza was elected to serve in the
16Illinois House of Representatives in 2000 at the age of 28,
17making her the youngest member of the 92nd Illinois General
18Assembly; she was elected to her sixth term as Illinois State
19Representative in November of 2010, a testament to her great
20dedication to the citizens of her district; and
 
21    WHEREAS, During her tenure with the Illinois House of
22Representatives, Representative Mendoza has served as Chairman

1of the International Trade and Commerce Committee,
2Vice-Chairman of the Bio-Technology Committee, and member of
3the Labor, Public Utilities, and Railroad Industry Committees;
4she has also served as Co-Chairwoman of the Conference of Women
5Legislators and was a co-founder of the first Illinois
6Legislative Latino Caucus; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza won the election for
8Chicago City Clerk in the February 22, 2011 election with over
960% of the vote, making her the first woman to be elected to
10the position; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Representative Mendoza will undoubtedly serve the
12citizens of Chicago with the same dedication and integrity that
13she has given to the citizens of the 1st House District;
14therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate Illinois State Representative Susana Mendoza
18for her success, thank her for her service to the people of the
19State of Illinois, and wish her success and happiness in her
20future endeavors; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to Representative Susana Mendoza as a symbol of our
