HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois General Assembly wish to honor and congratulate State Representative Angelo "Skip" Saviano on his 20 years of service to the people of Illinois and the 77th Representative District; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano was born in Chicago and later moved to Elmwood Park where he was raised and is currently raising his family; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano began his career in 1989 when elected as the Leyden Township Supervisor and served for 4 years before being elected to the Illinois General Assembly; he took office in January 1993; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano was appointed chairman of the Registration and Regulation Committee in 1995, and was reappointed to this chairmanship in 1997, becoming the first member of a minority caucus to hold the title of chairman in recent history; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano was instrumental in many local projects including the Franklin Park Underpass; and

WHEREAS, By the Governor's appointment, Representative "Skip" Saviano was appointed to the Guardian and Advocacy Commission in 2007; and

WHEREAS, By appointment of the 4 legislator leaders of the Illinois General Assembly, Representative "Skip" Saviano was appointed co-chair of the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) in 2009; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano was known to be a staunch advocate for those constituents with special needs, most notably, his accomplishments with protecting the rights of men, women, and children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder; he was named the AutismOne Legislator of the Year because of his efforts; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano was continuously recognized for his work on behalf of the working class and was a known friend to labor organizations; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano has been the key negotiator on numerous amounts of key legislation and has consistently worked across the aisle for the betterment of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano has been awarded hundreds of distinctions and honors including the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police Legislator of the Year, Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois Legislator of the Year, Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans Joseph Cardinal Bernardin Humanitarian of the Year, and the NEDSRA and People with Disabilities Legislator of the Year; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano received the 2012 Golden Horseshoe Lifetime Achievement Award for this complete perseverance and commitment to the People of the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano has always maintained an "open-door" policy and he has always welcomed any constituent to visit his office; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano has demonstrated a deep commitment to both his district and constituents, and has earned a reputation as someone who will persistently seek out answers and results; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano is an exceptional chef known throughout the entire State and has served as a celebrity chef for many organizations; and

WHEREAS, Representative "Skip" Saviano has thrown the end of session party for several years to show his appreciation for all of the work and dedication staff puts into the legislative process; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that Representative "Skip" Saviano has demonstrated a deep commitment to both his district and constituents, and has earned a reputation as someone who will persistently seek out answers and results; and be it further

RESOLVED, Representative "Skip" Saviano will be sorely missed in Springfield and throughout the 77th district, and the Illinois General Assembly wishes him success in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Representative Angelo "Skip" Saviano as an expression of our esteem and respect.
