HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish to recognize the important accomplishments in the lives of Illinois residents, communities, and organizations; and

WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has worked to fulfill Dr. Martin Luther King's dream of serving humanity by feeding the hungry, visiting the incarcerated, and loving those in need; and

WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has taken to hear the words of Mrs. Coretta Scott King, who said "We call you to commemorate this holiday by making your personal commitment to serve humanity with the vibrant spirit of unconditional love that was Martin Luther King's greatest strength, and which empowered all of the great victories of his leadership. And with our hearts open to his spirit of unconditional love, we can indeed achieve the Beloved Community of Martin Luther King's dream"; and

WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has recognized the fact that the federal King Holiday and Service Act, enacted in 1994, designated the King Holiday as a national day of volunteer service and charged the Corporation for National and Community Services with leading this effort; and

WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has helped organize projects by a wide range of non-profits, including Community Services of Will County Inc., National Hook-up of Black Women, University of St. Francis, and the Joliet Slammers; and

WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has encouraged the citizens of Joliet to take advantage of this day of service and participate in events throughout our State on the King Day of Service, January 21, 2013, and to create and implement community service projects; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor the 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois and encourage the people of Illinois to observe the King Day of Service by volunteering on January 21, 2013; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois.
