HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives wish
3to recognize the important accomplishments in the lives of
4Illinois residents, communities, and organizations; and
 
5    WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service
6Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has worked to fulfill
7Dr. Martin Luther King's dream of serving humanity by feeding
8the hungry, visiting the incarcerated, and loving those in
9need; and
 
10    WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service
11Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has taken to hear the
12words of Mrs. Coretta Scott King, who said "We call you to
13commemorate this holiday by making your personal commitment to
14serve humanity with the vibrant spirit of unconditional love
15that was Martin Luther King's greatest strength, and which
16empowered all of the great victories of his leadership. And
17with our hearts open to his spirit of unconditional love, we
18can indeed achieve the Beloved Community of Martin Luther
19King's dream"; and
 
20    WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service
21Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has recognized the fact
22that the federal King Holiday and Service Act, enacted in 1994,

1designated the King Holiday as a national day of volunteer
2service and charged the Corporation for National and Community
3Services with leading this effort; and
 
4    WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service
5Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has helped organize
6projects by a wide range of non-profits, including Community
7Services of Will County Inc., National Hook-up of Black Women,
8University of St. Francis, and the Joliet Slammers; and
 
9    WHEREAS, The 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service
10Planning Committee of Joliet, Illinois has encouraged the
11citizens of Joliet to take advantage of this day of service and
12participate in events throughout our State on the King Day of
13Service, January 21, 2013, and to create and implement
14community service projects; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
16NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we honor the 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service Planning
18Committee of Joliet, Illinois and encourage the people of
19Illinois to observe the King Day of Service by volunteering on
20January 21, 2013; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the 2013 Martin Luther King Day of Service
