HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to honor Montgomery Village President Marilyn Michelini for her decades of dedicated service to her community and her many achievements as a community leader as she prepares for retirement from public office; and

WHEREAS President Michelini's first professional government position began in 1982 when she agreed to complete the remaining 2 1/2-year term of a retiring board member on the Kane County Board; in 1987, she was first elected to the board of trustees for the Village of Montgomery; and

WHEREAS, President Michelini played an active role as a trustee and was the only woman on the board; she earned a reputation for always "doing her homework", thereby gaining the respect of fellow board members; and

WHEREAS, In April 2001, President Michelini was elected Village President; and

WHEREAS, President Michelini has had to draw from her many years of professional experience to manage the great changes taking place in this rapidly growing Village; and

WHEREAS, President Michelini's leadership was instrumental in advancing numerous community achievements and improvements during her tenure, including:

(1) Initiation of a senior program featuring monthly luncheons, presentations, and activities;

(2) Acquisition and donation of land to school districts for construction of 2 new elementary schools in Montgomery;

(3) Completion of the Village's Transportation and Access Plan;

(4) Approval of numerous annexation agreements covering residential, commercial, and industrial developments to ensure smart, managed growth;

(5) Implementation of a free battery recycling program for residents;

(6) Successful completion by the Historic Preservation Committee of the restoration of Settler's Cottage; the Settler's Cottage Museum is now open to the public;

(7) Creation of a Beautification Committee that coordinates flower plantings on the bridge, banners in the downtown, and other beautification efforts; and

WHEREAS, During President Michelini's tenure, the Village of Montgomery received many professional accolades, including: Excellence in Financial Reporting, Excellence in Planning Award, Award for Strategic Planning, Perfect Fluoride Compliance, Stormwater Management Award, Naturalized Stormwater Management, Outstanding Use of Native Plants; and

WHEREAS, President Michelini strove to make Village government more accessible and responsive, establishing social media sites that allow more interaction with residents and businesses, conducting monthly "Coffee with the Mayor" meetings, and hosting annual events, including: a tree lighting ceremony, an open house, a 5K River Run/3K River Walk, and Montgomery Fest; and

WHEREAS, Inter-agency cooperation requires active participation on numerous councils and committees, therefore President Michelini served as a founding member and past president of the Metro West Council of Government, represented Kane and Kendall Counties on the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning, and also serves on the Kendall County Mayors and Managers Association, the National Association of Regional Councils, the Kane County Storm Water Management Commission, the Fox Valley United Way Board (Community Impact Committee), and the Kane County Impact Fee Committee (alternate); therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we honor Montgomery Village President Marilyn Michelini for her service and achievements on behalf of the residents of the Village of Montgomery, and we congratulate her and wish her a long and happy retirement; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to President Michelini as an expression of our esteem and respect.
