| 2 | | WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man or humble | 3 | | background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and | 4 | | advancing the public good, having been employed as an | 5 | | entertainer, union leader, corporate spokesman, Governor of | 6 | | the State of California, and President of the United States; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction | 9 | | for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of | 10 | | America; during his second election, he earned the confidence | 11 | | of three-fifths of the electorate and was victorious in 49 of | 12 | | the 50 states in the general election - a record unsurpassed in | 13 | | the history of American presidential elections; and
| 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated | 15 | | President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by | 16 | | rampant inflation and high unemployment; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, During Mr. Reagan's presidency, he worked in a | 18 | | bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring | 19 | | accountability and common sense to government, which led to | 20 | | unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions | 21 | | of Americans; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active social policy | 2 | | agenda for the nation's children helped lower crime and drug | 3 | | use in our neighborhoods; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our armed forces | 5 | | contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her values, | 6 | | and those cherished by the free world, and prepared America's | 7 | | armed forces to meet the challenges of the 21st century; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through | 9 | | strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate | 10 | | demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for | 11 | | millions of people; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, February 6, 2011 will be the 100th anniversary of | 13 | | Ronald Reagan's birth and the seventh since his passing; | 14 | | therefore, be it
| 15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 16 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 17 | | the date of February 6, 2011, be designated as Ronald Reagan | 18 | | Day in the State of Illinois; and be it further
| 19 | | RESOLVED, That we urge the citizens of this State to take | 20 | | cognizance of this event and to participate fittingly in its | 21 | | observance.
