HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Dr. Ken Nelson on receiving the 2012 Illinois Family Physician of the Year award from the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson has spent the past few years helping to increase access to health care for uninsured persons in Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson has spent over 20 years as a volunteer at Community Nurse Health Association, through the Community Healthcare Network of the Western Suburbs; he has put his efforts into securing local specialty care for the uninsured adults in the western suburbs, broadening the Illinois Good Samaritan Law, and working through CURE to bring free medical, dental, and vision, services to thousands of underserved Illinoisans; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson completed his residency training in family medicine at LaGrange Memorial Hospital and continued on to the University of Chicago, where he completed a post-doctoral fellowship in clinical pharmacology; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson helped found the Prairie Medical Group in the west suburb of Westchester; he has volunteered his services at the LaGrange-based Community Nurse Health Association's free clinic for adults and has served as the clinic's medical director since 1992; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Ken Nelson will receive his award at the Illinois Academy Awards Banquet on November 9th at the Eaglewood Resort in Itasca; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Dr. Nelson on receiving the 2012 Illinois Family Physician of the Year award; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Dr. Nelson as an expression of our respect and esteem.
