HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Jean Joseph Salomon; and

WHEREAS, Jean Salomon was born on June 11, 1933, in Coteaux, Haiti; his parents are Exant Joseph Salomon and Marie Cecilia Mazile; he married the love of his life, Irma Kernizan, on December 22, 1959; and

WHEREAS, Jean Salomon graduated from Toussaint Louveture, where he was an excellent student; he subsequently attended South-Western Publishing courses on bookkeeping and accounting and received his degree in mathematics and accounting; and

WHEREAS, In 1971, Jean Salomon moved his family to Chicago, where he worked as an accountant and supervisor at Humphrey Leather Goods until his retirement in 1996; and

WHEREAS, Jean Salomon had a strong passion for education, which inspired him to open a math and science academy; he later became the Director of Telecommunications in Haiti; and

WHEREAS, Jean Salomon enjoyed spending time with his family, taking part in Freemason activities, politics, literature, and art; he also excelled at public speaking and debates and was a self-taught architect; and

WHEREAS, Jean Salomon was very proud of his Haitian heritage and was a strong voice in the Haitian community; and

WHEREAS, Jean Salomon was preceded in death by his parents; his sons, Alix and Jeanton; and his siblings, Hery Salomon and Marie Solange Theronier; and

WHEREAS, Jean Salomon is survived by his wife of 53 years, Irma; his children, Edgard, Diane, Betsy (Gerard), and Michaelle; his grandchildren, Katia, Kaylin, Kyra, Krysten, and Alix; his sister, Marie Lourdes; his brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Joel and Martha Gue, Hector Vales, Marie Anne and her family, and Lucienne Kernizan and her family; and his many nieces, nephews, relatives, and close friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Jean Joseph Salomon; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Jean Salomon as an expression of our sympathy.
