HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Little
4Pony Eagle of Godfrey, who passed away on October 31, 2012; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was born on January 19, 1923, in
6St. Joseph, Missouri; he was the son of Red Eagle and Goldie
7Eagle; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle received his promotion
9certificate from Roosevelt Junior High School at the age of 16
10and was believed to be the first true American Indian to
11graduate from an Alton public school; after his discharge from
12the Army in 1945, he attended Shurtleff College, where he
13graduated with a degree in engineering; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle served his country as a member
15of the United States Army with the 5th Bomber Command during
16World War II in the Pacific Theatre; he earned 5 Bronze Stars
17and a Good Conduct Medal for his meritorious service; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle retired as an engineer from
19McDonnell Douglas, where he worked on the Gemini Project in the
201960s; and

1    WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was a Shriner and a 32nd Degree
2Mason with the Piasa Masonic Lodge #27 A.F. & A.M.; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle was preceded in death by his
4wife, Hazel Eagle; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Little Pony Eagle is survived by his sisters,
6Eagle Feather Barker and Two-Star Eagle; his nieces and
7nephews, Monica Star Jerrells, Traci Dale Barker, Derrick Tyler
8Barker, Thomas Eagle DeMond, Lance J. DeMond (Nancy), Jeffrey
9Val DeMond, Rexford Jason DeMond, Bene' Star Hentrich (Andy),
10and Lezlie Monique Kearney (Tim); and his 12 great-nieces and
11great-nephews; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
13NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of
15Little Pony Eagle; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Little Pony Eagle as an expression
18of our sympathy.
