HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, On October 15, 2012, the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus will mark the beginning of the 30th Anniversary Season with a celebration at the Center on Halsted; and

WHEREAS, The Chicago Gay Men's Chorus has been an integral part of Chicago's cultural and gay communities since 1983; and

WHEREAS, 30 years later, the Chorus is still attracting over 175 men and women of all ages, ethnicities, and sexual orientations to perform; and

WHEREAS, For the last 2 decades, CGMC have entertained audiences across the continent with innovative musical programming exploring everything from love to politics to the sometimes fabulous, sometimes challenging world of being gay - often all at the same time; and

WHEREAS, The Chorus always has memorable performances which have included original musical revues, 4 popular productions celebrating the Sidetrack show tune experience, full-length book musicals like The Wizard of Oz, The Mikado, and H.M.S. Pinafore, and traditional choral concerts - all punctuated with joyous irreverence; and

WHEREAS, CGMC has traveled extensively across North America, representing Chicago in cities including Montreal, New York, Los Angeles, and New Orleans; and

WHEREAS, By inviting choruses from across the United States and Europe to sing with them here in Chicago, the Chorus has hosted many talented musical groups; and

WHEREAS, Recently, the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus was induction into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, With more than 150 singing members backed by a small army of volunteers, the CGMC family covers a diverse cross-section of the Chicago metropolitan area; and

WHEREAS, Under the visionary guidance and inspired direction of Artistic Director Patrick Sinozich, the Chorus delivers a distinctive brand of entertainment that keeps their audience coming back again and again; and

WHEREAS, Chicago Gay Men's Chorus members log thousands of hours annually to accomplish an ambitious schedule of performances, fund-raisers, and charitable appearances; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate the members of the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus on the occasion of the group's 30th anniversary and wish them continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
