1 HOUSE RESOLUTION

2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate the Quad Cities
4 MetroLink on being selected as the 2012 Outstanding Public
5 Transportation System by the American Public Transportation
6 Association; and

7     WHEREAS, The award is given out amongst all agencies in
8 North America carrying between 1,000,000 and 4,000,000
9 passengers annually; MetroLink carried 3.5 million trips in
10 fiscal year 2011; and

11     WHEREAS, MetroLink beat out 198 other agencies that were in
12 the running for the award; and

13     WHEREAS, MetroLink continues to improve and expand; the
14 development of the new MetroLink Transit Maintenance Building
15 along the riverfront in Rock Island and the construction of the
16 new MetroLink multi-modal transportation station, which will
17 serve Amtrak and be the nucleus for 2 development plans in
18 neighboring portions of western downtown Moline, should bring
19 good things to the area; and

20     WHEREAS, Development of a Chicago-to-Moline Amtrak route
21 is under way; and

1     WHEREAS, MetroLink's general manager is Jeff Nelson;
2 therefore, be it

3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5 we congratulate the Quad Cities MetroLink on being selected as
6 the 2012 Outstanding Public Transportation System; and be it
7 further

8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to general manager Jeff Nelson as an expression of
10 our esteem and respect.
