HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, State Representative Monique D. Davis and the
3Illinois House of Representatives wish to commend and
4congratulate Reverend Oscar Walden, Jr. on the celebration of
5the opening of The Oscar Walden, Jr. Exhibit on Wrongful
6Convictions; and
 
7    WHEREAS, The Oscar Walden, Jr. Exhibit on Wrongful
8Convictions will be held on Thursday, October 4th, 2012, from
96:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at The Chicago Theological Seminary; and
 
10    WHEREAS, In 1952, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. was falsely
11accused, jailed, convicted, and served almost 14 years in
12prison for a crime he did not commit; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. earned his bachelor's and
14master's degrees from Chicago State University, served as
15minister at Quinn Chapel AME Church, Mt. Zion AME Church,
16became a playwright, authored several books, and composed music
17for the drama "Skipper", based on the life of Milton Lee Olive
18III; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. now ministers to prisoners
20around the world through the People's Courts of Final Appeal
21International World Outreach Global Ministry; and

1    WHEREAS, Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. never gave up the fight to
2prove his innocence; therefore, be it
 
3    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
5commend Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. on his struggle to prove his
6innocence and congratulate him on the opening of The Oscar
7Walden, Jr. Exhibit on Wrongful Convictions; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Rev. Oscar Walden, Jr. as an expression of our
10esteem and respect.
