HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate James Rivers Thompson on the occasion of becoming the first Labor Man of the Year Award recipient in the East St. Louis Federation of Teachers Local 1220 IFT/AFT AFL-CIO's history; and

WHEREAS, James Thompson is a member of the East St. Louis School District #189's Pupil Personnel Services Department; he has served the members of the Board of Education in several administrations as Principal, Supervisor, Faculty and Staff Member; he has also served as the East St. Louis School District 189 staff coordinator for the Senator James F. Clayborne's Mentoring and Enrichment Youth Program at East St. Louis Senior High School for 5 years; and

WHEREAS, James Thompson has been an active member of his community; he serves as coordinator of the District 189's annual Salvation Army Bell Ringing special effort for volunteerism and the joint union's venture on volunteering with the renovation of the Youth Annex to the Village Theatre of Alorton, where students will receive complementary after-school, Saturday tutoring, and training in various fields of interest; and

WHEREAS, James Thompson is a member of the Greater Faith Christian Church in Centreville; he was ordained as a Deacon on March 25, 2012; he serves as the Assistant Chairman of the Trustee Ministry and is a member of the Pastors Aide Ministry; Deacon Thompson also participates in numerous church programs, including Bible Study, Sunday School, Worship Service, and the 5th Sunday Fellowship Institute; and

WHEREAS, James Thompson and his loving wife, Martha, have one daughter, Tashia Yvette (Maurice) Billups, and one dear grandson, Arkim R. Lewis; and

WHEREAS, James Thompson serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate James Rivers Thompson on the occasion of winning the Labor Man of the Year Award and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James Thompson as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
