HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Michael Einig on the occasion of attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout; at 15 years of age, he is a young Eagle Scout; and

WHEREAS, Michael Einig joined the Cub Scouts upon entering as a Tiger in the first grade; he earned the highest rank in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Life, as a member of Pack 100; he currently is in Troop 392 of Our Saviour's United Methodist Church in Schaumburg; and

WHEREAS, To become an Eagle Scout, Michael fulfilled the Boy Scouts of America requirements of the ranks of Tenderfoot, Second Class, First Class, Star, and Life; along the way, he earned 12 required merit badges and 9 elective merit badges, served in troop leadership positions for a total of 16 months, and spent at least 13 hours on service projects, not including the many hours he spent on his Eagle Scout service project; and

WHEREAS, He has completed approximately 325 different requirements; as a Boy Scout, he served as a Den Chief in Pack 100 for 4 years; he was elected and inducted into the national Boy Scout Honor Society, the Order of the Arrow, the first year he was eligible; and

WHEREAS, His Eagle project benefited veterans and their families; first, he organized a "Hike for Heroes" Memorial Day weekend, 2011; he held an opening ceremony with the Schaumburg American Legion Post 1983 and raised $3,200; the money was used to purchase materials to build a Garden of Gratitude at the Hines Veterans Administration Hospital Fisher House; and

WHEREAS, The Hines Veterans Administration Hospital Fisher House is a place for families of veterans receiving medical treatment to stay free of charge; his garden has a bench and arbor along with beautiful flowers and a granite marker that is engraved with these words: "Garden of Gratitude: with sincere appreciation for the sacrifices you have made to support the men and women who served our country"; and

WHEREAS, In total, 103 volunteers worked on this project 353 hours; in addition to the garden, he presented the staff with a check for $1,900 to be used to purchase additional items needed for the families that stay at Fisher House; and

WHEREAS, As a result of his project, Michael was awarded the Schaumburg Area Special Veterans Special Award on Memorial Day, 2011 for his outstanding support of our nation's veterans; and

WHEREAS, Michael Einig serves as a model of hard work, integrity, and dedication for the people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Michael Einig on the occasion of attaining the coveted rank of Eagle Scout and wish him continued success and happiness in the future; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Michael Einig as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
