HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate Rosemary Macko Wisnosky on being installed as the honorary consul of Slovakia in the Chicago area; and

WHEREAS, The president of Slovakia, Ivan Gasparovic, went to the Krasa Center at Benedictine University on May 21, 2012, to install Naperville resident Rosemary Macko Wisnosky as honorary consul of Slovakia; and

WHEREAS, Her selection for the position is reflective of her role in the formation of the Sister Cities partnership that was forged between Naperville and Nitra, Slovakia, and formalized 20 years ago next year; and

WHEREAS, In addition to Ivan Gasparovic and Rosemary Macko Wisnosky, speakers at the event included Benedictine University President William Carroll, U.S. Representative Judy Biggert, Peter Burian, ambassador of Slovakia to the U.S., and Miroslav Lajcak, Slovakia's minister of Foreign Affairs; and

WHEREAS, Rosemary Wisnosky is a long serving Benedictine University trustee and an advocate and supporter of Slovakia; and

WHEREAS, The evening also included an exhibit of artwork by 3 prominent Slovak artists as well as music performed by Benet Academy and Benedictine University students and by a Chicago-based Slovak folk ensemble, known as Veselica; and

WHEREAS, In the role of honorary consul, Rosemary Wisnosky will help organize official Slovak visits, develop Slovak commercial, economic, and tourist events, extend assistance to scientists, artists, journalists, teachers, students, and assist citizens of the Slovak Republic abroad who find themselves "in distress" as defined by international law; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Rosemary Macko Wisnosky on her installation as honorary consul of Slovakia and wish her well in her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Rosemary Macko Wisnosky as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
