HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives are pleased to congratulate James O'Shea, who is retiring after 34 years of teaching at Oakton Community College and serving as the Chairman of the Law Enforcement Department; and

WHEREAS, From August of 1977 to the present he has served as the Chairman of the Law Enforcement Department at Oakton Community College in Des Plaines; from January of 1971 to September of 1977 he was a Special Agent in the Investigations Division of the Illinois Department of Revenue; and

WHEREAS, He graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1958; he graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1964 with a Bachelor of Science in Education; he received his Masters of Arts degree in political science from Roosevelt University in 1976; and he attended the Criminal Justice Graduate Program at Chicago State University; and

WHEREAS, He served in the Illinois National Guard and U.S. Army Reserve from 1958 to 1966; and

WHEREAS, He received a Recognition Award from the Des Plaines Police Department in 1986 for his professional expertise, his outstanding cooperation, and his assistance in providing community police training to the law enforcement community; he was named a Finalist for the Ray Hartstein Award for Academic Excellence in 1987 and in 1997; and he was the recipient of the OCC Outstanding Teaching Effectiveness Award in 1983 and 1984; and

WHEREAS, He was a volunteer in the Expert Professor Series 1998-99 and 1999-2000; he originated and presented over the years, "Street Smarts" Crime Prevention Programs for Oakton students, numerous colleges, universities, and church groups; he is a member of the Illinois Police Association and a member of the North Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police; and

WHEREAS, He is married to Liz O'Shea and has 2 sons, James and Matthew; he will retire on May 31, 2012; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate James O'Shea on his retirement and wish him all the best in his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to James O'Shea as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
