HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are pleased to congratulate Molly Martin on the
4occasion of her retirement on June 1, 2012, after 39 years of
5service as a distinguished music educator; and
 
6    WHEREAS, She was greatly influenced by her parents, Barney
7and Madlyn Erdman; the chairman of the Department of Music at
8the College of Saint Catherine in Saint Paul, Minnesota; and
9music educator Sally Small from Naperville School District 203;
10and
 
11    WHEREAS, She received her Bachelor's Degree from St.
12Catherine's in 1971; her Master's Degree from Northern Illinois
13University in 1992, and her National Board Certification in
142006; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 1971, she began her first year of teaching in
16Cedar Rapids, Iowa, in the College Community School District;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, She taught music at Highlands Elementary,
19Maplebrook Elementary, and Scott Elementary Schools in
20Naperville School District 203 from 1972 to 1979; she taught
21music in the Bolingbrook School District in Bolingbrook from

11979 to 1981; and
 
2    WHEREAS, In 1981, she began teaching music at The Avery
3Coonley School in Downers Grove, where she remained for 9
4years; and
 
5    WHEREAS, In 1992, she was hired by Northern Illinois
6University to serve in the capacity of Director of Corporate
7and Foundation Relations for one year; and
 
8    WHEREAS, In 1993, she began teaching music in Indian
9Prairie School District 204 in Naperville, first at Patterson
10Elementary School, where she taught for 18 years, and later at
11Georgetown Elementary, where she taught for one year; and
 
12    WHEREAS, She has influenced hundreds of young people by
13instilling a passion and love for music, especially singing, as
14she served as the Assistant Director, Accompanist, Director,
15and Artistic Director for the Young Naperville Singers; and
 
16    WHEREAS, She has supported colleagues by providing
17guidance for teachers, both experienced and new to the
18profession, through various mentoring initiatives; and
 
19    WHEREAS, She has made major contributions to the field of
20music education by approaching her work with enthusiasm and

1honest reflection and by identifying and recognizing that each
2student has a unique way of learning; and
 
3    WHEREAS, She plans to spend her retirement doing activities
4at her own leisure at her home in Naperville, including
5spending time with her daughter, Elizabeth, reading,
6gardening, teaching piano, lunching with friends, and getting
7caught up on her rest; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10we congratulate Molly Martin on the occasion of her retirement
11and wish her many happy and healthy retirement years; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to Molly Martin as a symbol of our respect and
15esteem.
