HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The rising rates of tuition at public universities in this State are of concern to the members of this General Assembly; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we recommend that in any fiscal year in which the rate of tuition at a public university in this State is increased by any percentage above the percentage increase in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers for all items, as published by the United States Department of Labor, during the 12-month calendar year preceding that fiscal year, the board of trustees of the university not increase, in that fiscal year, the base salary of the president of the university and other principal administrators who are employed by the university and whose base salary exceeds $200,000; and be it further

RESOLVED, That it is not the intention of the General Assembly in this resolution to interfere with existing employer-employee contracts of employment; and be it further

RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be delivered to the board of trustees of each public university in this State.
