HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Illinois Route 75 is an east-west road in
3north-central Illinois stretching over 40 miles through
4Stephenson and Winnebago Counties; Highway 75 runs from
5Freeport to the Wisconsin state line southeast of Beloit,
6Wisconsin; and
 
7    WHEREAS, An effort to dedicate Highway 75 in its entirety
8as the Purple Heart Trail in honor of wounded and deceased
9veterans has been undertaken by The American Legion Gold Post
10676 in Durand; and
 
11    WHEREAS, The Purple Heart is awarded in the name of the
12President of the United States to any member of the Armed
13Forces or any civilian national of the United States who, while
14serving under competent authority in any capacity with one of
15the U.S. Armed Services after April 5, 1917 has been wounded,
16killed, or who has died or may hereafter die after being
17wounded; and
 
18    WHEREAS, In honor of the ultimate sacrifice paid by so many
19of our troops throughout history, it is fitting to dedicate
20Highway 75 as the Purple Heart Trail as a humble gesture of
21thanks for the freedoms we enjoy on a daily basis; and

1    WHEREAS, In accordance with the words spoken over the
2fallen at Gettysburg by a former representative from Illinois,
3let us "never forget" our fallen heroes; therefore, be it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
5NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
6SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate Highway 75 as the
7Purple Heart Trail; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
9is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
10State regulations, plaques or signs giving notice of the name;
11and be it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
13presented to the Illinois Secretary of Transportation and The
14American Legion Gold Star Post 676.
