Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a person in a wheelchair who is secured by a restraining device for passengers with disabilities shall also wear a properly adjusted and fastened seat safety belt.

A BILL FOR

AN ACT concerning transportation.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by changing Section 12-810 as follows:

Sec. 12-810. Restraining devices for passengers who are persons with disabilities. Each school bus which is operated for transporting passengers who are persons with disabilities shall be equipped with an appropriate restraining or safety device for each such passenger. A person in a wheelchair who is secured by a restraining device for passengers with disabilities as required by this Section shall also wear a properly adjusted and fastened seat safety belt as required by Section 12-603.1 of this Code.
