HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate newly-elected City of Chicago Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin on her retirement as State Representative for the 10th District; and

WHEREAS, While serving in the Illinois House, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin was actively involved in legislative initiatives to improve the quality of life for the people of the 10th District, in Chicago, and in the State of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, As State Representative, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin was the chief sponsor of legislation to help children in schools, to help teachers repay their student loans, and to help the formerly-incarcerated gain employment; and

WHEREAS, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin is deeply concerned for those living in poverty and was the chief sponsor of legislation to ensure individuals in poverty have access to jobs in the construction services and to improve access to resources for women and babies in need; and

WHEREAS, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin was elected as treasurer for the City of Chicago by a substantial margin on April 2, 2019; and

WHEREAS, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin was raised in Chicago by a single mom from whom she learned the value of hard work and education; and

WHEREAS, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin has a Master of Business Administration from Roosevelt University; she has 15 years of experience in the insurance industry and has a background in mentoring; and

WHEREAS, As Chicago's next City Treasurer and Chief Investment Officer, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin has pledged to ensure transparency, accountability, and an exemplary investment strategy unlike any other city; and

WHEREAS, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin has promised to lead initiatives which value the economic capacity of individuals living in underbanked and underserved communities; and

WHEREAS, Above all, Treasurer Conyears-Ervin is devoted to her family; she is married with a lovely daughter; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate newly-elected City of Chicago Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin on her retirement as State Representative for the 10th District, and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Treasurer Conyears-Ervin as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
