HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, Gratitude is the mother of all virtues; and

WHEREAS, The idea of gratitude is a very old idea that has been espoused in Jewish, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, and other traditions; and

WHEREAS, The positive effects of gratitude on physical health, on psychological well-being, and on relationships with others has been studied and verified; and

WHEREAS, Within the past few years, science has found that the sense of gratitude has enhanced the well-being of individuals in a positive manner; and

WHEREAS, Gratitude originated from the proposition of doing on to others as they would do to themselves; and

WHEREAS, At this time in the history of our nation, the individual citizen has much to be grateful for; and

WHEREAS, Life itself is worth being grateful for; the more we are grateful, the more circumstance will create situations for us to be grateful; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare the 4th Thursday in May 2019 and the 4th Thursday in May 2020 as "State of Illinois Day of Gratitude"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That we urge everyone to take time to share with friends, family, neighbors, employees, employers, and everyone they know that they recognize and are grateful for the many things they have in life; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Abdulhakeem Y. Salaam.
