SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/14-17 new

    Amends the Children with Disabilities Article of the School Code. Provides that, for the Chicago school district only and within one month of the beginning of the 2018-2019 school year, the school board shall develop a one-page summation of the State Board of Education's public inquiry findings of the school district's special education policies and any corrective action plans. Requires the summation to be distributed to the parent or guardian of every student enrolled in the school district. Requires the State Board to approve the content of the summation before distribution by the school district. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Section
514-17 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/14-17 new)
7    Sec. 14-17. Special education policy; city with more than
8500,000 inhabitants.
9    (a) This Section applies only to school districts organized
10under Article 34 of this Code.
11    (b) Within one month of the beginning of the 2018-2019
12school year, a school board shall develop a one-page summation
13of the State Board of Education's public inquiry findings of
14the school district's special education policies and any
15corrective action plans. The summation must be distributed to
16the parent or guardian of every student enrolled in the school
17district. The State Board must approve the content of the
18summation before distribution by the school district.
 
19    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
20becoming law.
