SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alexander B. Pratt, Sr. of Englewood, who recently passed away; and

WHEREAS, He was born on May 4, 1929 in Chicago, to the late Albert Pratt, Sr. and Alma Pratt; he grew up in the Ida B. Wells Home and was educated in the Chicago Public School system, attended Forestville Elementary School, and graduated from Dunbar Trade School in 1947; and

WHEREAS, He accepted Christ at an early age; he served in the United States Army during the Korean War; he received an Honorable Discharge in 1955 and was ranked a Corporal; and

WHEREAS, He and his wife, Shirley, were united in matrimony on July 3, 1954; he later worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring in 1984; and

WHEREAS, He served as a member of the 73rd and 74th Street block club for over 40 years and as a member of the George L. Giles Post #87; he was also involved with the Dunbar's Old Timer Club & Dunbar's Alumni Association, the 7th District CAPS Crime Stoppers and Steering Committee, and the 17th Ward Senior Advisory Committee; he volunteered with Meals on Wheels, Open Hands, the Turner-Drew Grandparents Group, and many other community organizations; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, and his sister, Loretta; and

WHEREAS, Alexander Pratt, Sr. is survived by his son, Alexander, Jr. (Barbara); his daughters, Jacqueline, Alicia, and Patricia; his grandchildren, Alexander III (LaNesha), Javaris, and Krystina; his great-granddaughters, Destiny, Kaytriana, Alexandria, and Lauren; his brother, Albert, Jr. (Florine); his sister, Teresa (Cornelius) Hendricks; his aunt, Yvonne; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Alexander Pratt, Sr.; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alexander Pratt, Sr. as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
