SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Othie Lee Davis, formerly of Chicago, who
4passed away on September 25, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born on October 27, 1934, in Tutwiler,
6Mississippi, to Earl and Lillie Davis; he enlisted in the
7United States Army at the age of 21; and
 
8    WHEREAS, After the completion of his military training, he
9was sent to Korea in 1950, where he was one of the first Black
10soldiers to serve his country in the Korean War; and
 
11    WHEREAS, He spent most of his adult life in Chicago; he was
12retired from the International Harvester Company; he returned
13to Memphis to spend time with his family and friends; he later
14worked for the casinos in Tunica, Mississippi; and
 
15    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father; his
16sister, Flabe Hunter; and his daughter, Nikki Belinda Davis;
17and
 
18    WHEREAS, Othie Lee Davis is survived by his son, Murphy
19Duncan; his mother, Lillie Davis; his sisters, Lillie McBride
20(Gene) and Louise Davis; his brother, Earl Davis; his 23 nieces

1and nephews; his 7 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; his special
2friend, Lorene Jones; and many other loved ones; therefore, be
3it
 
4    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
5ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
6his family and friends, the passing of Othie Lee Davis; and be
7it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to the family of Othie Lee Davis as a symbol of our
10sincere sympathy.
