SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Othie Lee Davis, formerly of Chicago, who passed away on September 25, 2010; and

WHEREAS, He was born on October 27, 1934, in Tutwiler, Mississippi, to Earl and Lillie Davis; he enlisted in the United States Army at the age of 21; and

WHEREAS, After the completion of his military training, he was sent to Korea in 1950, where he was one of the first Black soldiers to serve his country in the Korean War; and

WHEREAS, He spent most of his adult life in Chicago; he was retired from the International Harvester Company; he returned to Memphis to spend time with his family and friends; he later worked for the casinos in Tunica, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his father; his sister, Flabe Hunter; and his daughter, Nikki Belinda Davis; and

WHEREAS, Othie Lee Davis is survived by his son, Murphy Duncan; his mother, Lillie Davis; his sisters, Lillie McBride (Gene) and Louise Davis; his brother, Earl Davis; his 23 nieces and nephews; his 7 grand-nieces and grand-nephews; his special friend, Lorene Jones; and many other loved ones; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Othie Lee Davis; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Othie Lee Davis as a symbol of our sincere sympathy.
