SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Alex Lopez; and

WHEREAS, Alex Lopez was born in November of 1965, in Weslaco, Texas; his parents were Jose M. Lopez and Maria Cruz Lopez; after he moved back to Chicago Heights with his family, he attended Garfield Elementary School and Washington Junior High School before graduating from Bloom Township High School in 1983; he then earned his finance degree from Western Illinois University in 1988; and

WHEREAS, Alex Lopez began his career in politics in 1995, when he was elected to the Chicago Heights Park District board; he served as a commissioner until 2003; from 2003 to 2006, he worked for Chicago Heights as the director of Thornwood Apartments; in 2006, he was hired to serve as the Chicago Heights Park District superintendent; in 2007, he was elected to the Chicago Heights City Council to serve as alderman of the 2nd Ward; in April of 2009, he was appointed to serve as Mayor of Chicago Heights, where he served until his passing; and

WHEREAS, Alex Lopez will be fondly remembered by his loving family and friends, his constituents, and his colleagues in Chicago Heights as a soft-spoken, honest, and thoughtful family man; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Alex Lopez; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Alex Lopez as an expression of our sympathy.
