SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Sylvia Lorene Johnson Allen of North
4 Chicago; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Sylvia Allen was born on December 30, 1953, in
6 Monticello, Arkansas; her parents were the late Sudie (Carr)
7 Johnson and the late Earl Johnson, Sr.; she was united in holy
8 matrimony to Bobby Allen in 1977 in Monticello, Arkansas; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Sylvia Allen graduated from Monticello High
10 School in 1972; she then earned her bachelor's degree in
11 elementary education from the University of Arkansas at
12 Monticello and her master's degree in administration and
13 supervision from Loyola University in Chicago; and
 
14     WHEREAS, Sylvia Allen had a long and distinguished career
15 in education; she began her teaching career in Dermott,
16 Arkansas and worked in the Waukegan Illinois Public Schools for
17 33 years; she continued to serve her students, parents, and
18 community humbly at Carman-Buckner Elementary School until
19 just recently; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Sylvia Allen professed her faith in Jesus Christ
21 at an early age at the Pilgrim Rest A.M.E. Church in

1 Monticello, where she served in the choir, the youth
2 department, and the Sunday School as secretary before moving to
3 Illinois; after marrying and moving north, she joined and
4 served the Eternal Flame A.M.E. Church faithfully as a steward,
5 Sunday School Superintendent, and Sunday School teacher; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Sylvia Allen was a member of the Martha Chapter #1
7 Order of the Eastern Star and served as the organization's
8 secretary and treasurer; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Sylvia Allen is survived by her devoted husband,
10 Bobby Allen; her daughters, Andrea (David) Hudson and Beverly
11 Allen; her grandchildren, Janay and David II; her brother, Earl
12 Johnson, Jr.; her sisters, Vivian (Charles) Lincoln and Luwanda
13 (Thedrick) Franklin; her nephews, Matthew Trotter and T.J.
14 Franklin; her nieces, Jennifer Franklin, Melissa Trotter, and
15 Jessica Franklin; her great nephew, Jae'lyn Trotter; her great
16 niece, Kayla Franklin; and her special cousin, Katie Elease
17 Daniels; therefore, be it
 
18     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
19 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20 her family and friends, the passing of Sylvia Lorene Johnson
21 Allen; and be it further
 
22     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be

2 sympathy.
