SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Edward J. Powers of Sugar Grove, who passed away on May 1, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Edward Powers was born on November 29, 1937 in Albany, New York; he was raised in Oak Park and graduated from Fenwick High School; he then graduated from St. Regis University in Denver, Colorado with an economics degree; and

WHEREAS, After fulfilling his military obligation, Edward Powers joined Clow Corporation in Chicago, where he was employed for 25 years; after being transferred for several years around the Midwest, he settled his family in Aurora; in 1985, he began his career as owner and president of PowerSeal Pipeline, an internationally-recognized manufacturer of pipeline fittings based in Wichita Falls, Texas; he remained actively involved in PowerSeal until his death; and

WHEREAS, Edward Powers was an active member of Holy Angels Parish for 30 years; he was a loyal supporter of Fenwick High School, Marmion Academy, Rosary High School, and Catholic education; he was a Prestbury board member for over 7 years and a 50-year member of the American Water Works Association and other industry related organizations; and

WHEREAS, Edward Powers was preceded in death by his parents, James and Kathryn (Nash) Powers; and

WHEREAS, Edward Powers is survived by his wife, Mary (Fitzsimmons) Powers; his children, Jim (Janene) Powers, Cate (Tom) Hickey, Brian (Janet) Powers, Patrick (Andrea) Powers, and Sean Powers; 11 grandchildren, Samantha, Jack, and Patrick Hickey, Brendan and Joe Powers, Jack and Daniella Powers, and Maria Isabel, Camila, Nash, and Sean Powers; his sister, Carol Blonquist; his brothers, Ken Powers and Jim Powers; and his many nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Edward J. Powers; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Edward Powers as an expression of our sympathy.
