SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Fredericka J. Nash of East St. Louis, who
4 passed away on April 26, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, She was born the middle child of three girls on
6 December 18, 1919, in East St. Louis to C.T. and Emma Edwards
7 Nash; as a native of East St. Louis, she attended St. Augustine
8 Grade School and graduated from Lincoln School; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Fredericka lived a life of academic achievements
10 through her acumen in higher education; she was a member of the
11 Radiance Center for Spiritual Living in Belleville; Fredericka
12 was the owner of Nash Funeral Home, the area's oldest black
13 owned funeral business; she, along with her sisters M. Frances
14 and Claudia M., from birth, began their lives in funeral
15 service under the guidance of their father, C.T. Nash; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Fredericka was a member of the following
17 organizations: the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, the
18 St. Clair County Retired Teachers Association, the St. Clair
19 County Funeral Directors Association, the Missouri Funeral
20 Directors Association, the Missouri State Funeral Directors
21 and Embalmers Association, the St. Louis Gateway Funeral
22 Directors and Embalmers Association, the 100 Black Women of

1 Funeral Service, the American Society of Embalmers, the
2 National Funeral Directors Association, the National Funeral
3 Directors and Morticians Association, the International
4 Graphoanalysis Society, the Alumni Society of SIU-E and SIU-C,
5 the Funeral Service Advisory Board, and she was a lifetime
6 member of the NAACP; she was also a past member of the East St.
7 Louis Civil Service Police and Fire Board, the St. Clair County
8 EEOC, and a Board member of School District 189; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Lovingly called "Fricks", she enjoyed traveling
10 to exotic areas; she was an Enrichment Program Lecturer for
11 cruise lines; she had also done research on variation
12 handwriting which was presented to the International Forensic
13 Society in Oxford, England in 1984; she had been lecturing
14 around the world until her health began to fail; and she was a
15 certified lecturer for the State of Illinois for Continuing
16 Education Units (CEUs); and
 
17     WHEREAS, In 1994, she was granted certification as an
18 authorized OSHA outreach trainer; and she was an insurance
19 producer and also the publisher of two books; and
 
20     WHEREAS, She was preceded in death by her parents and two
21 sisters, M. Frances Nash Terrell and Claudia M. Nash; and
 
22     WHEREAS, Fredericka Nash is survived by her niece, Claudia

1 E. Nash-Thomas; her numerous cousins; her two-god children, Lt.
2 Caroliss A. Childress and Fredericka Agnew; her extended
3 family, Harold (Fannie) Wayne, Marion Wayne, James Edward
4 (Carmen) Wayne, Marvin Wayne, Reginald (Marita) Wayne,
5 Michelle (Elwood) Buchannan, Michael (Carmel) Smith; and many
6 loving and dear friends; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
9 her family and friends, the passing of Fredericka Nash; and be
10 it further
 
11     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12 presented to the family of Fredericka Nash as a symbol of our
13 sincere sympathy.
