SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Victoire Raoul; and

WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul was born in Cap Haitien, Haiti in November of 1932; she was the first of the five daughters of Norelie and Joseph Prosper; and

WHEREAS, A dedicated student with a passion for helping and caring for those in need, Victoire Raoul studied nursing at Ecole des Infirmieres Cap Haitien, where she graduated in 1959; and

WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul migrated to the United States in 1962, first settling in New York; she then relocated to Chicago, where she worked as a nurse and met Gilbert Raoul, who she married in July of 1962; their beloved son, Philip, was born to them in November of 1965; and

WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul served as a nurse in numerous hospitals in and around Chicago; beginning her career at Woodlawn Hospital, she moved on to serve at Mercy Hospital, Northwestern Hospital, the University of Chicago Hospital, Christ Hospital, and Provident Hospital, from which she retired in 1997; however, her commitment to helping those in need was so great that she returned to the work force at South Shore Hospital, where she served as a nurse in the hospital's Chemical Dependence Unit until her health intervened in 2004; and

WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul was a soft-spoken servant, witness, and teacher of God's will and love for Jesus, proving her devotion on a daily basis through her family and friends, as well as her work as a nurse; and

WHEREAS, Victoire Raoul is survived by her son, Philip, and his wife, Tracy; her grandchildren, Akila, Abdel, and Ahmad; her sisters, Livie, Paula (John), Vena (Biocenne), and Eponin; her brother-in-law, Joseph Jr.; her sisters-in-law, Odette, Marie Julienne, Clemence, and Marie Claude (Robert, Sr.); and her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, extended family members, co-workers, and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with her family and friends, the passing of Victoire Raoul; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Victoire Raoul as an expression of our sympathy.
