SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Howard M. Uphoff of Washington, who
4 passed away on March 1, 2010; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Howard Uphoff was born in Rutland, on October 20,
6 1925, to Benjamin and Fern Alma Lynch Uphoff; he was one of
7 seven children; Howard graduated from Rutland High School in
8 1943; he served in the United States Navy in the Pacific
9 Theatre during World War II as a radio operator; and
 
10     WHEREAS, On November 6, 1949, on what he considered the
11 best day of his life, Howard married Donna Smith in Wenona; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Howard was a charter member of Rutland Post 1121,
13 American Legion; he also was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran
14 Church, where he ushered for more than 40 years; for over 38
15 years, Howard was proud to work at Caterpillar and retired in
16 1983, last working at the Morton parts facility; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Everyone who knew Howard knew that he was a Cubs
18 fan; his neighbors delighted in decorating his home and yard
19 with St. Louis Cardinals memorabilia; Howard spent most of his
20 free time doing what he loved most, hunting and fishing; and

1     WHEREAS, Howard Uphoff is survived by his wife, Donna; his
2 four children, Kevin (Alma) Uphoff, Dirk (Helen) Uphoff, Lisa
3 Uphoff, and Penny Zimmerman; his 14 grandchildren; and his
4 seven great-grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
5     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
6 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
7 his family and friends, the passing of Howard Uphoff; and be it
8 further
 
9     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 presented to the family of Howard Uphoff as a symbol of our
11 sincere sympathy.
