SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Ron "Papa" Schaper of New Lenox, who passed away on February 14, 2010; and

WHEREAS, Ron Schaper founded the New Lenox Mustangs youth football program in 1964; as the team's heavyweight division coach, he enjoyed his 500th win in the 2009 season and his teams captured 7 national championships; and

WHEREAS, Ron Schaper owned and operated Sentry Hardware on U.S. Route 30 until a fire destroyed the building in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Ron Schaper was a volunteer on New Lenox TV for many years and was known for announcing Lincoln-Way Central High School football games; and

WHEREAS, Ron Schaper was a former New Lenox Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year and was inducted into the Joliet Area Sports Hall of Fame in 2005; and

WHEREAS, Ron Schaper raised Shar-Pei puppies and was known for organizing cruise trips for his friends; and

WHEREAS, Ron Schaper is survived by his wife, Jan; his son, Bob; his daughter, Lynn Plarski; and his 5 grandchildren; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with his family and friends, the passing of Ron "Papa" Schaper; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Ron Schaper as an expression of our sympathy.
