SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Jack G. Wallenda Sr. of Chicago, who
4 passed away on November 21, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was born on April 2, 1926; he was married to
6 the late Stella Wallenda and was the loving father of seven
7 children and the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren and
8 eight great-grandchildren; and
 
9     WHEREAS, During World War II, he served honorably and with
10 distinction in the United States Army under the command of
11 General Douglas MacArthur during the Philippines campaign;
12 during the liberation of the Philippines Archipelago, the 7th
13 Infantry Division was responsible for the liberation of
14 thousands of American prisoners of war and freedom for the
15 people of the Philippines from Japanese hegemony; and
 
16     WHEREAS, While serving as a medium tank driver with the
17 Army's 7th Infantry, he was awarded the Philippine Liberation
18 Ribbon and the Asiatic Theater Campaign Medal; he was honorably
19 discharged from the Army on November 15, 1946; and
 
20     WHEREAS, After the war he joined the Chicago Police
21 Department and rose to the rank of Detective in Area 2

1 Homicide, Star #2789 from 1955 to 1979; during this time he was
2 one of the lead investigators on one of the most notorious mass
3 murder cases in the annals of Chicago history; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Upon his retirement from the Chicago Police
5 Department, he continued to serve the State of Illinois as an
6 appointee to the position of chief investigator by Attorney
7 General William J. Scott; he was also appointed and served as
8 Executive Director of the Illinois Liquor Control Commission by
9 Chairman Albert D. McCoy; he retired from public service in May
10 of 1991; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
13 his family and friends, the passing of Jack Wallenda Sr.; and
14 be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to the family of Jack Wallenda Sr. as a symbol of our
17 sincere sympathy.
