SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Leo A. Bachrach of Chicago, who passed
4 away on June 28, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, He was a gold and platinum-smith who patiently
6 produced custom-made rings, bracelets, and necklaces at a bench
7 in the Loop for about 60 years; he referred to himself as a
8 craftsman and not a jeweler due to his Old World training; and
 
9     WHEREAS, He was a resident of the West Rogers Park
10 neighborhood in Chicago; he came to the United States from
11 Germany in 1936 and started his business in 1944; and
 
12     WHEREAS, He was trained at the Zeichenakademie in Hanau,
13 Germany, a prestigious art school; his wife and later his son,
14 Mark Bacharach, joined him at Leo Bachrach and Son Jewelers;
15 and
 
16     WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents and his
17 sister, who died during the Holocaust; and his daughter,
18 Shirley; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Leo Bachrach is survived by his wife, Audrey; his
20 sons, Mark and Steven; and his four grandchildren; therefore,

2     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
4 his family and friends, the passing of Leo Bachrach; and be it
5 further
 
6     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
7 presented to the family of Leo Bachrach as a symbol of our
8 sincere sympathy.
