SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3 learn of the death of Stephen M. "The Irishman" O'Donnell of
4 Peoria, who passed away on January 18, 2009; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell was born on March 8, 1938 in
6 Effingham; his parents were John P. and Frances McDevitt
7 O'Donnell; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell served his country with pride
9 and distinction as a member of the United States Army Reserves;
10 and
 
11     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell worked for Michael Todd Co. in
12 Omaha, Nebraska and owned S.M.O. Sales and Service in Peoria;
13 and
 
14     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell was a member of St. Bernard
15 Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the 427 Third Degree
16 Spalding Council, the Illinois Police and Sheriffs
17 Association, and the Hook and Bullet Conservation Club; and
 
18     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell greatly enjoyed the company of
19 his nieces and nephews, Kevin, Maureen, Bridget, Michael,
20 Heide, Phil, Mike, Petra, Phil, Kate, Muffie, Ryan, Sean, Tim,

1 Dionne, and Cherie, and his 23 great-nieces and great-nephews;
2 he also loved fishing and spending his time talking with family
3 and friends; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell was preceded in death by his
5 parents; his brothers, Mick and Max; and his nephew, Patrick
6 O'Donnell; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell is survived by his best friend,
8 Marilyn Nash, and her family; his sisters, Sue (Jerry) Lafeber,
9 Maureen (Phil) Prassas, and Kathy Ireland; and his brothers,
10 Pat (Ursula) O'Donnell and Bob (Sue) O'Donnell; and
 
11     WHEREAS, Stephen O'Donnell will be remembered by all who
12 knew and loved him for his kindness, generosity, storytelling,
13 doughnuts, and his beautiful tenor's rendition of Danny Boy;
14 therefore, be it
 
15     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
16 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
17 his family and friends, the passing of Stephen M. "The
18 Irishman" O'Donnell; and be it further
 
19     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20 presented to the family of Stephen O'Donnell as an expression
21 of our sympathy.
